X-RAY DIFFRACTION (XRD) ANALYSES |
---|
Although XRD analysis can be performed on both powder and uncrushed samples, uncrushed samples are better for analysis.
Adequate information on the sample which has been exposed to various chemical and physical experiments and has had to be crushed as a final stage should be given.
The samples should be chosen to represent the area it has been taken and/or the target of the study the best.
The samples should have “Sample Tags” fulfilled by the entity that request the XRD Analysis. Each tag should contain sample mark, sample type and necessary information for the requested analysis. The sample mark in the tag should be stated in the Analysis/Test Application Form.
The same sample mark should not be used for different samples. Otherwise, the samples will not be processed.
In case of multiple analyses/tests for one sample, sample size should be increased depending on the analysis type and number.
The samples should be sent in a clean, transparent nylon bag or a resistant cloth bag.
XRD analysis is applied to determine natural minerals that can not be identified by optical microscopy.

Standard XRD |
XRD analysis for crushed rock and mineral sample is performed between 2º and 70º. Diffractograms are given as a print out in jpeg format or in electronic environment. In case special XRD range or conditions are requested, service period of the analysis may differ. For this reason, contacting with related Unit via Sample Acceptance Unit and getting an appointment is necessary before the application. Analysis period is determined as per the time schedule prepared following acceptance of the application and this period is notified to the customer. |

Standard Qualitative Mineral Analysis |
Samples that are not suitable for determination of mineralogical composition by optical microscopic analysis methods are crushed, analyzed with XRD diffractogram and detailed mineralogical determination of them are given over the diffractogram in accordance with ASTM Standards. Additionally, chemical analyses should be made based on the structure of the sample with MP-19 Analysis/Test Code for the processed and/or synthetic samples. Service fee of these analysis/tests will be additionally charged. |

Qualitative Detailed Clay Analysis |
It is a more detailed study of analysis/test with MP-19 code. Clay samples are processed as standard (between 2º and 70º), normal (between 2º and 30º), ethylene glycol (between 2º and 30º), 300 ºC heated (between 2º and 30º) and 550 ºC heated (between 2º and 30º) and detailed mineralogical determination of them are given over the diffractogram in accordance with ASTM Standards. |

Quantitative Mineral Analysis with Rietveld Method (IV) (for the samples that contain abundant clay-group minerals) |
Clay samples are processed as standard (between 2º and 70º), normal (between 2º and 30º), ethylene glycol (between 2º and 30º), 300 ºC heated (between 2º and 30º) and 550 ºC heated (between 2º and 30º) and detailed mineralogical determination of them as well as quantitative mineral analysis by using appropriate software and database are made in accordance with ASTM Standards. This analysis is applied only for the samples containing abundant clay-group minerals and information on the used method and sample content should be given. Service fee of analysis/tests with AA-01 code or AA-02 code or AJ-31 code will be additionally charged. |
