ORGANIC (COAL) PETROGRAPHY ANALYSES

Collected samples must represent the area (field) it has been taken or the aim of the study as best as possible.

Samples must have a “Sampling Label” sticker on them by the person who requests the Organic Coal Petrographic Analyses. Each label sticker must have appropriate info that includes the sample mark, type and the information necessary for the analysis. The sample mark, must also be written on the Analysis/Test Application Form.

One sample mark belongs to only one sample. There should be no two different samples with the same mark. Otherwise, the samples will not be processed.

If more than one analysis/test will be performed on a sample, depending on the analysis type and amount, the samples size must be increased.

Samples must be brought in a clean, thick transparent plastic bag or in a sturdy cloth bag.

Maturation Degree

Materials of peat, coal, graphite, coke, bituminous shale, petroleum shale, ozokerite, asphaltite are determined under polarizing microscope. The type of coal, diagenesis process that effect the organic matter, any presence of petroleum in the environment and whether the material can be graphite are determined.
