Turkish Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of The Earth Interior

TUVAK is the abbreviation of the Commission of National Volcanology and Chemistry of Earth's Interior of Turkey. Commission aimed at: 1) Volcanological researches, 2) Magmatic geochemistry and petrology, geochronology, mineral and ore beds of volcanic origin and multidisciplinary researches within the upper mantle and crust, 3) Efforts to the lowering of volcanigenic hazards.

TUVAK ,according to the Legislation of TUJJB (Union of National Geodetic and Geophysics of Turkey) is carried out by a Management group, consisting of a chairman and a secretary appointed by the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration and chairmen and secretaries of working groups of TUVAK.
Scientists dealing with the Earth and its vicinity have established two international organizations. They're IUGG (International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics Association) and IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences). IAVCEI (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of Earth's Interior), supporting the studies related with volcanological and chemistry of Earth's Interior on Earth, acts as a foundation of IUGG. In Turkey, TUJJB is organized similar to IUGG. TUJJB involves 7 different sub-commissions, one of which is TUVAK.
Concerns of TUVAK aimed at 4 main issues:

TUVAK, focused on the main issues above, includes formal and private foundations and persons defined below.

Working Groups

TUVAK is not an organization directly supporting or conducting researches. Its main activity is to provide coordination of the researches conducted or taken over by working groups and members and to support the issues on volcanism and volcanic rocks and to encourage them.

Working groups consist of members of TUVAK studying in the frame of issues and principles determined by the members of TUVAK. Each working group is managed by a chairman and a secretary.

Working groups of TUVAK are as follows:

  1. Volcanology and Geothermal Energy
  2. Geochemistry
    • Granitoid
    • Ophiolite
    • Alkaline Magmatism
  3. Isotope Chemistry and Geochronology
  4. Pyroclastic Rocks
  5. Magmatic generated ore beds
  6. Earth's Interior Chemistry Data Bank
  7. Geological Heritage and Natural Monuments
  8. Turkish Terminology
  9. Bulletin of TUVAK
